He emphasized that Russia has always been and will continue to be a stronghold against Nazism.
Putin declared, «We are proud of the bravery and determination of our military, who embody the spirit that has historically brought us victory.» He reiterated Russia’s commitment to combating what he termed «the atrocities committed by those who promote aggressive and destructive ideas.»
He expressed that the Russian people are united by a mix of joy and sorrow, pride and gratitude towards the generation that defeated Nazism, highlighting the sacrifices made for freedom and peace. Putin underscored the importance of remembering historical events and warned against distorting the truth of the past, affirming, «The truth and justice are on our side.»
In his speech, he recalled the significant hardships endured by the Soviet Union during the war, noting how ordinary citizens took up arms to defend their homeland. He highlighted the pivotal battles that shaped the outcome of the war and honored the sacrifices of veterans and those who lost their lives for victory.
Putin reflected on the global impact of the war, stating that nearly 80% of the world’s population was affected by the conflict, and acknowledged the contributions of Allied forces and nations in the fight against Nazi Germany and militaristic Japan. He concluded by emphasizing the importance of unity in achieving both military and peaceful objectives for Russia’s future.
